This is the seventh book in the Arkady Renko series; having enjoyed the previous six, I was compelled to order it. Although there are many compelling dialogs in the story, like all of Smith's previous works, there seemed to be several gaps in the plot that could have been expounded upon. For instance, after being dismissed from the Moscow Militia for his accumulated episodes of insubordination, Arkady is suddenly reinstated without any significant explanation for his commander's change in heart. It almost seems as if Mr. Smith was in a hurry to fulfill his quota with his publisher.

My spouse rarely reads anything other than The WEEK Magazine and the very very occasional Martin Cruz Smith tome! M. Cruz Smith does not rush his writing so there is a long wait between 'em but spouse patiently waits! LOVES MCS and also Emmy Lou Harris but that's another story and about music. Though MCS writings are music to the eye!? Well read any of MCS books and you will ENJOY the written word for both enlightenment and entertainment! Thanks!
Martin Cruz Smith is one of my favorite authors. I always enjoy what Arkady Renko is up to.

Always like Martin Cruz Smith's books. He's one of my favorite authors and he doesn't disappoint! His descriptions of the landscapes and cities are so credible and his characters are usually real characters!!! Just wish there were more books coming soon.
Martin Cruz Smith is an amazing author. This is one of his best. Better than any ride on any coaster.
