Additional information
Originally recorded and released in the early 1960s, this excellent Stanley Turrentine date is one of the artist's many fine Blue Note recordings from the period. Finding its niche between hard bop and soul-jazz, DEARLY BELOVED features Shirley Scott on the Hammond B-3 and Roy Brooks on drums, creating a frame for Turrentine's bluesy sax style not unlike the one he enjoyed with B-3 maestro Jimmy Smith, whose recordings with Turrentine are worth seeking out as well. Blues, bop, light funk, and deep soul, all in the classic style of early `60s Blue Note dates, are woven together on this tasty set.
