I have been a hard cider drinker (occasional) since before I legally was allowed to do so (sorry, not sorry). However, now in my late 30’s, as cider has exploded in popularity, I have decided to venture into the world of making my own cider for personal consumption, and maybe later commercial ventures. Anyway, in light of this desire to make my own, I have purchased many books on the subject from all the leading authors of the subject (both living and not). Currently I have like a dozen different books on cider making, from basic to very scientific. Craft Cider Making by Andrew Lea is so far my favorite. Although it is not the most technical book on the subject, I find it to be the most readable, with a nice balance of the science behind fermentation mixed with the joy of experimentation. Lea’s 20+ years of lab experience, mixed with his every day conversational style will make this book a favorite of anyone wishing to begin making their own (hard) Cider. I cannot recommend this book strongly enough to anyone who has decided to take up the art of cider making.Read full review
