I got married and had two babies while still in college. I used to live in Pennsville near the Delaware River. I walked everyday, weather permitting, in the now empty park. My two babies would be in one stroller. The older one would ask for The River Song. I don't know how many hundred times I sang Garth Brook's, The River while walking in that park but I guess it was enough. Really that place is empty but the history is palpable. There was so little written about it, ridiculously little considering it's historical importance. To tell you the truth I didn't decide to write The River Beach. That place saw the young woman with the two babies, listened to me singing about how a dream is like a river -and IT chose ME to tell it's story.
