Synopsis
In this captivating and lavishly illustrated young adult edition of her award-winning #1 New York Times bestseller, Laura Hillenbrand tells the story of a former Olympian's courage, cunning, and fortitude following his plane crash in enemy territory. This adaptation of Unbroken introduces a new generation to one of history's most thrilling survival epics. On a May afternoon in 1943, an American military plane crashed into the Pacific Ocean and disappeared, leaving only a spray of debris and a slick of oil, gasoline, and blood. Then, on the ocean surface, a face appeared. It was that of a young lieutenant, the plane's bombardier, who was struggling to a life raft and pulling himself aboard. So began one of the most extraordinary sagas of the Second World War. The lieutenant's name was Louis Zamperini. As a boy, he had been a clever delinquent, breaking into houses, brawling, and stealing. As a teenager, he had channeled his defiance into running, discovering a supreme talent that carried him to the Berlin Olympics. But when war came, the athlete became an airman, embarking on a journey that led to his doomed flight, a tiny raft, and a drift into the unknown. Ahead of Zamperini lay thousands of miles of open ocean, leaping sharks, a sinking raft, thirst and starvation, enemy aircraft, and, beyond, a trial even greater. Driven to the limits of endurance, Zamperini would respond to desperation with ingenuity, suffering with hope and humor, brutality with rebellion. His fate, whether triumph or tragedy, would hang on the fraying wire of his will. Featuring more than one hundred photographs plus an exclusive interview with Zamperini, this breathtaking odyssey--also captured on film by director Angelina Jolie--is a testament to the strength of the human spirit and the ability to endure against the unlikeliest of odds. Although this book was not as described, with no picture of it in the listing, the seller communicated well and quickly gave me a full refund while letting me keep it. The minimal packaging left the book a bit vulnerable (typical for ThriftBooks), but it did arrive safely and timely. As usual, it’s hit or miss with this seller, but often times you can get great values, and their customer service is always very good. Many other sellers with millions of transactions don’t even communicate.

I've ordered several items from this vendor now and they've always been what they were advertised as. This was no exception. Both discs were in great shape as well as their jewel cases. Delivery is good, packaging is simple but effective for what you're paying and I haven't had any get damaged. Will keep buying from this vendor because of the results so far and good prices, too.

  • Great Adaption for anyone!

This adaption is great! It includes the main punts without including some of the facts that may not be something some people want to read. It has a few curse words in it, where as the regular book has many many curse words in it. They are both good reading but just beware. I would definitely go with young adult or mature teen on this book. The regular one is definitely adult reading. All of the stuff in the book is true. All of the stuff you would imagine happening in a war, happened to Louie or he saw it, basically.... In my opinion, his conversion, his transformation and his complete forgiveness of those who abused, and degraded him is the selling point of the book.

  • UNBROKEN

This is an amazing true story of strength, survival, and endurance of a soldier's ordeal in a Japanese prison camp in WW2. It also became a great movie. A must-read. Truly remarkable.

  • This man was a true hero who loved his country & fellow man.

The book is as exciting as was the movie (which I have seen numerous times & enjoyed totally every time. So much to be admired about this man. He was a dedicated hero & a man to be so admired for his strength. I have so enjoyed reading the book, as much as seeing the movie.
