Even if it's lighter with the hits than most of its high-profile competition, This Is Dubstep 2013 still kicks hard and drops bass bombs that are devastating. Check your woofers once the malfunctioning, low-end robot called "Fallout" from Emalkay comes around, although astronauts are more likely to gravitate toward Razor Rekta's "Bang Ya Door" as the booming reverb suggests deep, deep space. Then there's Ruckspin & Medison's remix of Foreign Beggars' "Flying to Mars," which isn't so much outer space as hip-hop with an inner city kind of trunk rumble, which also brings up how diverse the set is, beating the competition when it comes to sampling all the dubstep flavors. Icicle's "Acid Step" is stark and experimental; Mala's "Cuba Electronic" is exotic and spicy, while big hits "Smack My Bitch Up" (Prodigy in a Noisia remix) and "Too Close" (Alex Care with Distance bringing the bass) taste familiar and satisfying. This Is Dubstep 2013 is wobbly, well-rounded, and worth it. ~ David Jeffries
