I rated this unit only 4 not 5 stars because upon inspection I found that the hand soldering done during the unit's final factory assembly, on the otherwise fairly good quality main circuit board, was far less than first class, with many small obvious slivers of excess solder and excessive amounts of flux left in situ on the board, which when you are talking about a device that itself generates up to 1000V internally, for insulation testing, is definitely not, a good or desirable thing. Another thing I didn't like was the rather 'flimsy feeling' hard-plastic case which I really doubt would stand up to any rough handling if dropped or thrown into a repair truck's toolbox along with any other of the usual tools. An outer case made from a softer silicone plastic or a rubberized outer skin would certainly be a definite advantage on this unit. Also, the battery enclosure on the back of the unit uses three separate rows accommodating two AA cells in each of them, to provide the 9V required to power the unit. As well there is one more 'spare' non-connected, fourth and 'empty' row, located below these 3 rows, which is a great idea, because between the usually, normally infrequent uses, of such an Insulation Tester, you can remove one AA cell from two of the 'normal rows' and store them in this 'spare' non-connected row to prevent any possible damage occurring from the batteries leaking due to them aging while being left for long periods without use, while they're located in their normal three 'connected' rows. This Tester fails in its implementation of this idea however, because you can only remove, and store, one cell, from two, out of the three, 'normal rows' and so the risk remains that those two AA cells that are left, remaining and still connected, in the third normal row, long term, may still, leak over time and thus ultimately cause damage to that row of the unit's battery compartment. If you could instead, remove one AA cell from all, of the three normal 'two-cell' rows above it, and store all three in this fourth, 'spare' non-connected 'storage' row, then this unit's design would be perfect and that would make the fourth 'storage' row, truly useful. Electrically the unit performs all of its test functions well and the large well illuminated LCD, displays the test results very clearly, and they all seem to compare closely enough for accuracy, when compared with the same Insulation test result readings, taken with a Kyoritsu 3132A. Overall, at the price point, I would say this Insulation Tester is a useful bit of test-kit to have, providing that you always, keep all of those negative points that I've already mentioned above, in mind.Read full review

A low cost effective unit which well serves its purpose. Easy and simple to use; fortunate as included instructions (Chinese) are not particularly helpful.

It does what it expected to do. Would like better aligator clips and a 9V plug pack would be great additions.
