The dvd was like new with no defects. The price was so reasonable and I had really been wanting to replace the old vhs . This film was very well made, the music and settings perfect, very engagng and easy to watch over and over.

I liked this film as it starts rather typical for a "Merchant Ivory" type film but there are twists you don't see coming and the scenery and the costumes are grand. Not to mention that Jennifer Gardner is a minor role in this before her now fame as we know it. I love the ending and I hate the ending--sorry you have to watch it to understand why I say this. It was worth the money I paid and my friends have also watched it and I will re-watch it so all in all a good deal.
One of my favorite films. Largely disregarded by audiences, this is one of the best Henry James adaptations out there. It includes beautiful cinematography and stunning performances by Jennifer Jason Leigh, Albert Finney and Ben Chaplin. Any James fan or period piece fan should not miss. And the film remains true to the novel--no Hollywood ending here! Love it.
I'm an extra in the first 15 moinutes so, I'm a bit bias, but it's ok. The actors take a really long time to get used to their accents and each other, but it does get better towards the end.
This is a really great movie of a great classic novel. Acting is superb and would recommend this movie highly.
