On a winter's day in January of 1932 an assembly of ten local lawmen attempted to apprehend two brothers, Harry and Jennings Young who were holed up at an isolated Missouri farmhouse. The shootout which followed became one of the bloodiest armed encounters in American history involving lawmen and 30's era desparados. When it was all said and done six cops were shot to death and three more were wounded as the brothers made good their escape. More policemen were killed during this incident than any other single incident during the 20th century and would not be eclipsed until the 9-11 tradgedy. Bruce Davis tackles his subject with vigor and the result is this fine book which inches along detail by detail until the brothers are eventually gunned down sometime later. Maps, Photos and diagrams of the scene enhance this gem of a book. Highly recommended for it's retelling of a tradgedy that is all but forgotten American history.Read full review
