I bought into the hype that this 16 toother was really going to make a difference when shifting, and honestly, I don't think it makes much of a difference at all. Normally, when I am up-shifting, I'll push through 2-4 gears at a time. In fact, my shifts between the 13-19t cogs never really experience any "hanging," and nothing seems to take longer than it should; pretty much flawless to say the least. Anyhow, like I said, I kinda got sucked into the hype after reading reviews about this cog; however, shifting pretty much feels exactly the same when using the standard 15t my cassette came with. Maybe you can tell the difference, but I surely can't. For reference, I am using the 16t cog with a Shimano XT M771 cassette with a Shimano XT Shadow-Plus M786 rear mech with a Shimano XT HG95 chain. PS. I love my Wolf Tooth 42t GC and can't recommend it enough!Read full review

The 16t cog is a rarity unless you have a limited-range cassette (11-23, 12-25, biggest range I know of is 12-28). Those cassettes might be OK for the pros, but for us mere mortals who need 34x32 to make it up a 10%+ grade, sacrificing the 16t for the big cog means we suffer on the steep jump from 17t to 15t. A big 'thank you' to Wolf's Tooth for creating this cog. I take my 12-32 cassette, remove the 14t cog, and insert this 16t. My gearing is now 12-13-15-16-17-19... Yes, there are times I miss the 14t, but overall 12-13-15-16-17-19... is a million times better for me than 12-13-14-15-17-19...

Just what you need when going to a 42t large cog, it spreads the range more evenly amoungst the smaller cogs. Quality product.
