Upgrade from Intel E2180 Dual Core to Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700 is it worth it? Yes!

It's difficult to review technology that's obsolete however, I'll give it a go. The computer that this processor went into was purchased as a low spec, refurbished machine on ebay which was to be used for a small business for Word, Excel, email and the occasional websurfing. The processor was replacing an Intel E2180 Dual Core processor which is also obsolete. At the same time as the processor upgrade the RAM was upgraded from 3GB to 8GB. The processor was easy to upgrade just by using CPUID which identifies your mainboard, RAM, Graphics card and processor. You can then look this up and find the specifications for it. These tell you the maximum RAM that can be installed and the fastest processor that can be installed. The processor was easy to come out and the new one was extremely ...

  • Well worth the money

Needed an upgraded processor to run Star Wars, did some research on the motherboard and through Intel and came up with this one and an Extreme chip as the best the board could handle. Decided to opt for this as the Extreme was a lot more money and with the graphics card we also needed that would have put us over budget. I had to buy some thermal paste, but the swap was easy and the PC started up, recognised the new processor and its been working smoothly ever since. Its running Windows XP SP3 on a Foxconn motherboard with 4GB RAM, its temperatures and voltages are fine and it does everything we wanted it to. A very cost effective upgrade and has kept an older PC running that would otherwise have ended up in the bin.

  • Good upgrade

The fastest processor my motherboard can take. upgraded from 2.13Ghz Duo Core 2 CPU processor. easy upgrade. much faster now.

  • Good 4 core cpu

I bought this for my Dell Optiplex 755. I just updated the bios and plugged it in. All 4 cores are recognised and there don't seem to be any problems. Some programs run faster, provided the limit is the cpu and not, for example, the disk.

  • Best upgrade for an old system

If you want to put new life into a skt 775 system with minimum effort this is the cpu for you [check the motherboard can use a kentsfield quad] The Q6700 is replacing a 3,6 ghz P4 660 witch has HT and 2MB L2 and in its day was a very good cpu the Q6700 uses less electricity runs cooler and gets my work done faster, that why its amazing I know its an old computer, it does what i need it to do and now i dont need to buy a full new computer
