Juan Mascaro translated (and edited) not just the Upanishads but other Hindu words as well. I have had a paperback copy since 1965 and bought this as a gift because the introduction alone is worth the purchase. The book explores the various scriptures without making the reader suffer from repetitive verbage or dogmatic judgement. The book has been republished again and again as there continues to be a demand for it. In the introduction Mascaro draws similarities between Hindu concepts and expressions with those from Christian sources and notes poets and writers. While one can gain an appreciation for hindu spirituality from reading the book, I think one can also gain an appreciation for spirituality in general, what people look for, what they seek to know, and how they approach these ideas/concepts/beliefs. A memorable book (and for me, a good friend)Read full review
