Author Biography
Beloved Alberta television weatherman, radio talk show host, news broadcaster, and award-winning playwright, Bill Matheson wrote the manuscript for A Year Down North in 1976 when he worked briefly as weekend weatherman at New York City's WABC. This fictional account draws on Bill's work as a meteorological assistant at Fort Simpson, NT following his release from the Canadian Army after WW II in the 1940's. At the International Convention of Weathercasters, Scientists and Environmentalists in Paris, France in 1995, Bill was awarded the International Excellence award by his peers for being the best on-air weatherman in the world. Bill died in Lethbridge, Alberta in 2006.
