James Taylor's Live at the Beacon Theatre captures the quintessential singer/songwriter in a lively, intimate 1998 performance at New York's Beacon Theatre in support of his 1997 album Hourglass, which was his first new record in over five years. Though much of the set list is devoted to Hourglass material like "Line 'Em Up" and "Jump Behind Me," Taylor makes plenty of room in the 25-song strong show for favorites such as "Your Smiling Face," "Fire and Rain," and "You've Got a Friend," as well as inspired renditions of "Everyday," "Handyman," and "How Sweet It Is." The brilliantly clear Dolby Digital Surround Sound (which was engineered by Grammy Award-winning producer/engineer Frank Filipetti), the videos for "Copperline" and "Enough to Be On Your Way," and the interview with Taylor make Live at the Beacon Theatre one of the best music DVDs available, and a must for fans. ~ Heather Phares
