I bought a refurbished Acer from eBay, along with a two-year extended warranty from Square Trade. I found out that if I bought the warranty at the same time, I would save about $20, so that was a no-brainer. That way, instead of just 90 days, I have two years of protection. I bought this tablet after doing some extensive research, and decided that it would give me the most bang for the buck. The tablet has a mini usb, a regular usb, an HDMI port, and room for memory expansion with a micro SD card. The Acer is one of the few tablets that has all these features. When I got the tablet, it had Android Honeycomb, but I was able to upgrade it to Ice Cream Sandwich. However, be aware that while you register your Acer with Acer, your tech support doesn't come from them. It comes from a company called Seneca. Since we're not supposed to put links to outside web sites, I'll just say if you put in support.senecadata.com, you'll reach them. Be aware that they'll ask for the serial number, plus your invoice. Since they downloaded ICS within a few hours of my request, I feel confident that I'll get good support from them. I found the tablet to be very user-friendly. I don't use Netflix, but when I accessed Amazon video on demand, the tablet did a great job. Playing Angry Birds on this thing is more fun that playing it on my smart phone, because the screen is so big. The Acer will take all kinds of Android apps, and if you check the box that says to allow apps from unknown sources, you can access Amazon Android apps. They offer quite a few apps, plus one free app per day. The only fault I can find with it is its weight. I kind of wanted something I could put in my purse, but this tablet is too heavy for that. However, with all the other great features, I can forgive Acer for not making it lighter. I'm so glad I got this tablet, and would definitely recommend it to others.Read full review
This is my first tablet and I love it, I got it at a great price. I would say $250USD or less is a reasonable price for this tablet. I don't think spending twice the money for an I-Pad. Is worth it plus Android has more free apps than Apple dose in my opinion. The only con I have about this tablet is that its little heavy the battery is good its last about 8 hours and that is from watching movies and shows on Netflix. So if your looking for reasonable price tablet with great picture quality and sound and fast surfing this is a good choice.
When received, this refurbished unit looked and operated as new. Now with 5 weeks of daily use, my wife tells me that this is my best purchase yet. It worked flawlessly, out of the box, with the installed v3.0 (Honeycomb) OS and after a very easy to do upgrade to v4 (Ice Cream Sandwich), it works even better. The display is as good as my plasma HDTV and when connecting the tablet to the TV via HDMI the video from the tablet is crystal clear and sharp as a tack. I also added an additional 32GB Class 10 SDHC card and now my wife has access to her complete collection of albums, photos & videos in one easy to use unit. Without headphones, the audio is fantastic although a bit weak on the bass. With headphones or while connected to the TV, the audio is perfect. Although this unit might be a tad heavier than most 10" tablets, my wife has absolutely no problem with it. And finally, the battery life is more than adequate for my wifes and my needs.Read full review
I decided that I needed a tablet. I wanted to have the best, however I wasn't willing to spend the $500 price tag for an iPad. In fact I didn't really feel that my need justified spending over $250 for it, but I wanted the best. So I did a little research and concluded that the iconia a500 would give me the most bang for the buck. THE ICONIA A500 BLEW MY EXPECTATIONS OUT OF THE WATER. I cannot tell you how much I love this tablet. My neighor who has the ipad3 was impressed with this tablet. When comparing they are very similar. I would probably put this tablet on par with an ipad2 in terms of quality and performance, which was what I originally wanted. I feel I may prefer the iconia to the iPad. Not having access to the apple store is kind of a con however the Google play store is good, and getting better. While not having access to the apple world is con, I wouldn't be limited to it either, giving the iconia many more possibility to casual user. This tablet has ports for all of your media needs. Im not comparing it to other tablets when I review the battery life but I feel it can be better. I've been getting 5hours with intense use (gaming etc.) Which is fine. this'd tablet cost me $200 for a refurb, about half of what an iPad of equivelent specs would cost you.Read full review
I did a lot of research before selecting a tablet. At first I was looking at 7 in. models but decided that a 10 in. model would be better. The Acer A500 caught my eye since it has the latest Android OS, a very good resolution (1280x800), dual processor and sufficient memory with the capability to add an additional 32GB or less microsd card. It has access to the Android market with many Alps to download. I really like the A500 and usually take it with me shopping. I can sit in the car and use free Wi-Fi at many places.
