With over 75 games, I figured there would be at least a few I would like. There were several games that I had never originally played too. Please note that this will not work with Vista 64bit, but works fine with XP SP3. The box does not mention working with anything beyond XP. I read some comments on people not being able to get the games to work, read the directions! The retro soundtrack was good at first, but only a few songs on it. Wow, those graphics were really cheesy! The games seem very challenging! One of my favorite games was Demon Attack and the translation to PC was as good as the original. If you grew up having an Atari 2600 and got rid of it, but want to relive some of the nostalgia, this is a good start. For the price you can not go wrong, as many hours of entertainment are there! The manuals for how to play the games are all there too!Read full review
These games are super fun and bring back a lot of memories. A lot of the games I didn't recognize by name but I remembered them as soon as I saw them. I have spent way too many hours now playing Pitfall, Moonsweeper and River Raid since I got this game. My 8 yr old Daughter thought they looked so old fashioned compared to her video games, but now she always begs to play Dolphin. I do have to admit like the previous reviews, that the main menu on this game is a bit clunky and awkward, but once you are on the game you forget about it...that is until you go back to the main menu. The game also includes some retro 80s music which is pretty cool. Even with it's clunky main menu, I have to give this game an Excellent rating purely on nastalgia and the sheer number of games you get with it.
What I like about the Activision Anthology is that virtually all the popular Activision video games made for the Atari 2600 are on the disc-75 in all. This includes the popular Pitfall as well as Pitfall II all the way to Starmaster and Keystone Kapers. In the background plays hip music from the 80's if you so choose, and it really is an enjoyable gaming experience, all in all. The only thing I disliked was the keyboard action, in other words how the keyboard controlled the games with the arrow keys. You need to get yourself a gaming controller-Logistics makes good ones, and therefore enhance your game play. Otherwise, I really have no complaints about this product.
I bought this for pure nostalgia reasons. I played nearly all of these games as a child. Getting my first Atari 2600 was what initially kick-started my love of video/pc games and my decision to enter the computer programming field. These games are just as hard today as they were nearly 30 years ago. The initial interface took a few minutes to figure out. I too had thought I bought a clunker of a game as some of the reviewers had stated. That aspect could have been explained a bit better. After you select a game and it is loaded up on the screen, press the F2 key (if I recall) it is the one to start a new game, as explained in the button description when the ESC key is pressed. Sadly doesn't come with Pac Man, Burger Time, Centipede, or Tank.
If you loved these games on the Atari 2600, then you will love this collection. Simple controls and graphics but lots of fun.
