This is a very good electronic drumset in it's price. Very well built, sturdy, highly responsive, and customizable. I have so much fun playing on it since i bought this. A few cons that i find are i wish the cymbal boom arms are much longer so you have more versatility in placing your cymbals on the kit since they can only be places on top of the two center post. The snare rims should also be rubberized so that when you play rimshots you will only hear the electronic sound and not the actual rim shots (especially i upgrade my heads with mesh for even more silent drumming). But all in all i have no regrets buying this set and would highly recommend this to anyone looking for an e-drums.

This is a great kit. I've been a guitar player for over 14 years and I wanted to learn how to play the drums. I decided for this kit because it's not a very basic kit, but not as expensive as a pro kit. Also I can't make a lot of noise in my house, so this is a great option. I read several reviews about how noisy the pads are, but they are not as noisy as they say. Also, tweaking the controls and sensitivity configurations get you a better sound. I just started using it as a MIDI trigger with logic pro and ezdrummer and it responds very well, you have to dig a little bit into the configuration though. I'm very happy with this kit, also be sure to assemble and tight the pieces very well, so you don't have any trouble about pads coming loose while playing. Hope this review helps you trough your search of an electronic drum set.Read full review

I can play as long as I want in my basement now. For an apartment setting I would say mesh heads like remo silent stroke would be necessary. Feels good to play and has good range of pretty realistic drum kit sounds as well.

I have been a performing musician for a lot of years. I am a guitarist but I have been around quite a few drummers in my time, so I have set behind several drum kits. First off, this has got to be one of the best sounding electronic kits. The dynamics are amazing! The various characteristics of a drums sound change as the intensity of your playing changes, not just the same sound at low volume increasing as you play harder. Alesis has hit the drum on the head in that area. Speaking of heads, these drums have a realistic feel...now not being a drummer I am sure my opinion may vary from seasoned drummers, but for me, I feel like I am behind an acoustic kit. The versatility of the Alesis DM8 Pro is the biggest part of the selling point for me. I was looking into an acoustic kit for my home studio but sure am glad that I went with the DM8 Pro kit. It would have cost probably hundreds of thousands of dollars to acquire the vast amount of different drum sounds that are contained in the DM8 Pro. Just think of having to buy fifty different snares(I honestly do not know how many different snare sounds this thing has but I do know you can combine snare sounds to get a vast array of snare variations), all the different types and sizes of cymbals...well you get the picture, the cost would be enormous to have just all the different drums and cymbals not to mention the different microphones and effects to achieve the sounds of the same in the drum module of the Alesis Dm8 Pro. Now just from what I have seen by checking around you can't go wrong with Alesis Dm8 Pro, for the money. I have seen other electronic kits that offer a lot of what this kit has but for a whole lot more money. Yea there are some things that I wished the Alesis Dm8 Pro had, like separate inputs and outputs for each of the triggers and maybe a fader controlled mixer for the individual sounds, now don't get me wrong, you have control of mixing the sounds but it's not something you would want to have to do on the fly. If you want a little more snare in the mix you have to go in and edit the kit, it's not rocket science but it's not as easy as just bumping a fader up a little. So all in all I would have to say that my Alesis Dm8 Pro was a fantasic purchase at a fantastic price!!!Read full review
This is a full sized drum kit which works great. It has real drum heads, but they are backed by a foam pad and a hard surface. If you play them too hard, they do not feel like drums. The secret is to turn the sound/sensitivity up and use a light touch. The kit comes unassembled in a big box, and takes a few hours to assemble.I haven't had such fun since I got a large Lego set as a kid! Compared to the other kits at anywhere near this price, it's a no-brainer. Just plain excellent.
