Every boy needs a good jumper for the winter. Boys’ jumpers come in a variety of materials, styles and colours, so there is something to suit everyone.

Jumpers are a wardrobe essential, especially during the winter months. They can be worn over any type of shirt, and some can also be worn alone. Casual and formal styles are both available, so you can find boys’ jumpers to suit any activity and occasion, and almost any brand selling boys’ clothing will have some in their collection.

Traditionally, jumpers were made out of wool, and it remains a popular option to this day, especially for more formal jumpers. Today, though, other materials are also widely used, either blended in with wool or on their own. Cotton jumpers and polyester jumpers are much easier to wash than wool, which won’t survive regular cycles through the washing machine. Polyester fleece in particular is a very common jumper fabric thanks to its softness and insulating ability. Cotton is significantly lighter than wool, making it a good option in warmer weather. Perhaps most importantly, these fibres will not itch like wool can, making them more comfortable to wear over exposed skin.

The most common types of wool jumper are crewneck and V-neck pullovers. These range from thin, lightweight styles to thicker, chunkier knits. These styles can also be found in polyester or cotton fabrics. Cotton and polyester are also often used to make less formal jumper styles like sweatshirts and hoodies.

Boys’ jumpers come in a range of colours and designs. Solid colours are easy to match with other clothing, making them a great versatile option for filling out a cold weather wardrobes. Wool sweaters can come in a variety of patterns, such as argyle and Fair Isle. With cotton sweatshirts and hoodies, the sky's the limit for designs. They can feature anything from school logos to sports team insignias to superheroes.
