I bet that a lot of people are unfamiliar with this movie. The thing is, it’s friggin’ hilarious, it really is. O’Connell is good in this, and owns the part. Totally believable, just like the other one he did around a year prior, “Tomcats”. Reynolds steals the show. I swear that he has a couple scenes that make you laugh until you are hurting and can’t draw breath and turn purple. Bellamy is solid. Everyone’s everything, Alyssa Milano(Peter “Starlord” Quill’s bitchin’ ass ship is named for her) is the big surprise here. This was before anything she did as an adult except for “Charmed”. Right in the middle of that show, actually. She was already a grown up woman and had been for a while, but seeing her play a character like “Amy” was remarkable at the time, and a huge bonus for the movie. Bridgette (aka Mrs. Unibrow) Wilson has a decent part as David’s girlfriend, “Sarah”, and is really quite likeable. She’s a very pretty lady and her character is successful, easygoing, kind and loves this doofus for whatever reason, and you genuinely believe it and that she’s not a scary chick trying to force the dude into marrying her, she just digs David and wants to move on to the next part of the evolution of a grown up relationship. He balks, he’s kind of a dumbass about it, tbh. What’s not to like about her? Nothing. She’s definitely the marrying kind and he’d be lucky to have her be his wife, as he’s clearly a few years her junior in the grown up love deal. It all works out for the best and you actually are left basically satisfied that the filmmakers, specifically the writers, gave the audience what they wanted. A happy ending. I’m not spoiling anything with that comment btw. Look, it’s not “On the Waterfront” or even a faux classic like “any Thomas Mapother IV movie”, Tom Cruise film, I mean. But, it’s really entertaining and a decent way to kill about 90. I bought it and have been considering it for years and just got around to it. I only believe that certain films are worth owning, with the case and notes and such, and even that’s almost stupid now with streaming everything so dang easy these days. Better off spending my dough on vinyl albums. I never stopped collecting those puppies. Value man. Now, since everything is coming out in vinyl again, as well as CD’s, streaming and downloads, I’m an even happier dude. Most great bands have always produced a limited amount of vinyl albums for the hard core suckers like myself but having the format return is incredible.Read full review
