Build this model with care and add some weights in appropriate locations and you will end up with a great detailed working model of the 15 ton diesel crane. Parts do tend to need a bit of cleaning up but that is true for many kits. I have made several of these over the years from the original Airfix model to the current Dapol model and always enjoy the build. This model is supplied with metal axle wheel sets but not brass bearings so you will need to supply your own. There could be improvements, the supplied coupling is a disaster, Dapol should modify for tension lock couplings and inclusion of brass bearings would be a simple low cost improvement. These are the only reasons why I have dropped one star from my recommendation. It would also be great if Dapol had a corresponding match truck model to complete things.Read full review

Either Dapol have undergone some changes since taking back the Airfix Range or this Kit is a "2nd" as the amount of Flashing on the Sprues is beyong a joke. The kit itself is fine, all parts fitting nicely. The other major critisism is the 2 winding drums which are such a close fit, they need Vaseline to keep them turning otherwise they weld themselves.

It's a fun item to build & add to your layout. Perhaps not the most accurate model, but it's always been that way! Nice that proper wheels / axles now supplied as these run freely. Anyway a nice little project in these coronavirus times.

Very nice model, with plenty of scope for detailing. However you only get the crane, it's chassis and wheels; not the flatbed wagon that would have carried the crane arm. Because these models are made from die cast moulds originally made by Airfix back in the fifties and sixties there is no windows or transfers with the models. Windows for this particular model can easily be cut from transparent plastic card. For other models. like loco's, windows can be bought from specialist suppliers as can some transfers. One nice touch is they do give you metal wheels and axels, so the model will function (roll smoothly) on a model railway layout, but not connecters so you will have find your own way of connecting it to a train.

Some flash on the mouldings which needs a fine scalpel to remove (but this is explained by the age of the tools) but it came with metal wheels/axles which is much better than the old plastic two piece units that were always difficult to get running true.
