This is as good as any plier crimping tool and it's a whole lot less expensive. The area that drops down onto a ring terminal has a way of laying heavily on it and holding it down. That can free up both hands (but only when it is safe to do so). It is solid and pretty heavy. Best used when secured in a strong metal vise.

Everything about the product is good except the quality control on the piston fit inside the frame is very sloppy and wobbles. The result when you strike the piston to do the crimping, the piston does not go straight down into the center of the crimping area, but wobbles off to the side and doesn't do a nice even centered crimp. Again, the channel or bore in the frame which the piston slides in is too big and thus the piston can veer off to one side at the crimp. If that were corrected, it would be an excellent tool.

Great product for a great price, really! This crimping tool crimps all gauges of wire from 14 gauge to triple aught! Buying a pair of crimping pliers to do this can cost upwards of $300.00! Are you crazy! This tool cost about a tenth of that price and does the same job (if not better) than the large crimping pliers. Plus, unlike the large crimping pliers that need to be re-calibrated every so often, this tool needs none of that! I also see that the large crimping pliers start to wear down from every day use if you use them a lot where as this tool has very little wear and tear over years of use. A must have for an electrician and any handyman that works with wiring jobs(big or small).

You need to hit it harder than you might think. I used one of these years ago on 0ga copper lugs. This time I used it on aluminum/copper (or something, looked like AL but copper colored when smashed). Hit it once and not even close. Hit it again and was making process. But a 3rd time did the job. You need to use it on a hard flat surface, concrete floor would be best. Needed one of these in my tool box for years, very happy with my purchase.

Very pleased with quality of tool and of the finished crimp. Used on butt splices for 6 and 8 ga boat wiring where working space was limited at times. I opted for a "C" clamp instead of a hammer to provide the compression and it worked great. Professional looking crimps. Bench vise would be ideal if feasible.
