I use the eTrex when I go fishing on lakes and dams that have a lot of dead standing timber (trees) to mark my track. It makes for a faster return trip knowing where you need to travel to avoid any tree stumps or submerged logs. I have used the Garmin mounting bracket which is placed in a easy to see position near the boat tiller. I also have the PC connect cable and download all my trip details to a laptop fishing log. I believe you can now build tracks in Google Earth which has a ready made interface to Garmin mapping products. I find the eTrex to be an ideal product for my purposes and would highly recommend it.
!Bought one of these years ago and never learned how to use it. They are a little tricky at first. Recently I had a sea trip to make and wanted a cheap GPS so I bought thhis one and put in the time to master its use. What a difference! It was just what I needed and performed brilliantly. The secret is to enter data before you sail (or walk) so along the way the Etrex can tell you where you are relative to the points that you have entered, plus your speed and ETA. The entering of waypoints is a bit fiddly but once it's done you have a very handy guide with impressive battery life in a light but rugged unit.
This portable gps is great i use it for recording max speed for my rc models. Its Also great For Camping just add a way point and away you go and if you get lost just goto where you came from. accuracy is around 4m to 15m depending on available satellites
This is a well priced reliable gps. The only thing I find frustrating is the typing in for waypoints is a bit slow now we are all used to iPad type devices. But it is quick to respond at start up and sensitive even under cover.
One of the best GPS on the market..
