I bought an HP Ultra Small DC7800 desktop which is size of a large book because it has external power supply. It does not have any expansion slots but it is quiet, consumes low power and ideal for real work when connected to a multi function printer on a small computer desk in a corner. It came with a 2.6GHz processor but can support up to 3GHz. So I bought this CPU which was easy to install as HP PCs have easy access. All in all I have a compact PC with 3GHz CPU and 4Gig memory for under £50 which is good enough for every day use, including simple audio/video editing. Don't play games, so don't need any thing faster.

Bought duel core only to find out my PC does not support it. PLEASE DON'T MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE AND CHECK FIRST.

I already had a older computer with this CPU and it was very quick and I used it a lot. I also have two other quad cores computers running at 2.6GHz that I use for specials jobs, they were comparitively very slow, took several seconds to load a browser. I thought they would be quicker now that more software is written for multi-core CPUs. Obviously not! I bought two of these E8400 and changed the quad cores for these E8400 CPU, they fly now! Recommended!

Fantastic value. If you've got an old motherboard with an LGA775 socket and low end processor it's worth a try. Used this as an upgrade for my old desktop PC - well worth just over a fiver and less than half an hour's work to effectively double the speed of the old E2180 processor.
