This movie was directed in such a way, that it feels like your are right there next to Christian and Satine, enjoying the extravagant shows of the MOULIN ROUGE! I do not often buy the soundtrack for movies, but I definitely had to have this one. The songs used in this film are utter perfection! Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman sing brilliant covers of modern songs, and older songs, and entirely make them their own! The forbidden-love theme is carefully embedded into the story line, but is not distracting. All in all, this movie is a BEAUTIFULLY directed, well performed, amazingly sung, and carries one of the most beautiful love stories of all movies. Just watch it! You won't be sorry, I promise! 128931278937129837182937912 Stars out of 10!
Great movie.. One of my favorites. I love that the movie is a musical. I like movies like Grease and such were every song ties into the plot of the movie. Based in old French times... the story has an unusual love sequence. Nicole Kidman actually learned how to sing.. She sounds great in some parts. The male lead is also someone who you fall in love with almost immediately.
Who knew Ewan Mcgregor had a phenomenal voice until this movie or that Nicole Kidman could command the screen with something other than her beautiful eyes and long legs. This movie had great music, a phenomenal plot with many twists and turns, and a soundtrack that combined elements and songs in such a way that was entertaining and humorous. The costumes and cinematography will keep your mind going well past the drop of the curtain and the last time the words are uttered--the only thing you'll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return
Bought this as a replacement copy. Glad I did. I forgot all the reasons why I love Baz Luhrmans' work. If you like non-typical film, a story with multiple directions, and the quality of a theatre play on DVD, then this is it. Cast delivers a memorable performance and modern adaptation of many famous songs while seated a 100 year old setting. Long, but worth it. If you are the type of moviegoer who expects everything to happen in 90 minutes or less, this film is not for you. A mental investment is needed to fully enjoy it.
This movie is the third in a triad that they called "Red Curtain" trilogy. It's a particular style which included such movies as "Strictly Ballroom" and "Romeo and Juliet". A wonderful theatrical experience!
