I looked for a quadband mobile with camera and a REAL flashlight (xenon) to replace my N82, but in the meantime the market offers just 2 mobiles with these caracteristics: Nokia N8 and HTC Desire). It is my first touch screen mobile, so I wasn`t sure how it would fit my "environment". In opposite to the N82 the "buttons" are comfortably big, but from time to time they do not react straight to a touch. The display is big and shows clear colors without any points to critizise. The accu stays much longer than the N82, however, even if a higher power consumption through the flashlight is expected the lifespan of one recharge cycle is quite limited and does not fit the facts published by Nokia. The mobile was still used in urban areas in mid europe, so I cannot say anything about the quality of the receiver yet. The quality of voice and tone is ok and I have nothing to complain. The camera works as good as the flashlight and the quality of the pics is better than I expected by 12 Mpix in combination with this small sensor, only the permanently uncovered lens is a minus (this was better at the N82). A very big minus is the manual of the N8: neither the installed nor the downloaded manual of Nokia is correct, several information about where to find which topic in the quite complicately structured menues are uncomplete or just wrong and not even the Nokia support is able to answer some of these questions! Thanks God, we have a few really good informed and custumer oriented staff members of a Nokia shop in town who were really very helpful. Design, weight and fashion is no matter of interest for my decision buy or not, so no comments about this topic. Further features and technical details see internet. Although there are a few little points for improvement and MY mobile should phone and take pictures, I neither need it for "shaving nor mowing the lawn" I would buy it again.Read full review
So, you don't want to join the IPhone band wagon and spend something like 700 Euros on a phone. You don't want to reveal yourself to Google guys... and, not to forget, you never had a liking for Microsoft? What do you do? Well maybe a Nokia phone might be a choice, even though everybody will tell you that Symbian is dated. I can tell you: The N8 is a nifty device. I am totally happy with it. And not to forget: It does have the best camera ever put in a phone. I use it all the time. Well, to be a bit more serious: Here are the pros: o excellent build quality, touch and feel o really nice form factor o best camera you can get o best navigation solution in any phone o plenty of useful Symbian apps (Sports Tracker, Skype, Nimbuzz, DB Rail Navigator...) o you can get it for less than 400 Euros And the cons o it's not an IPhone o it does not have the highest resolution screen that can be had o There is no app store and Ovi is indeed rather limited... So, make your own choice!Read full review
Almost everything works better than its predecessor. The N8 has only 1 HDMI video output. Missing a composite video output. If you want to connect a normal hotel TV or LCD screen (in the car), you need an AV output (old-fashioned) device.
