Yep. This book really paints life and the characters in how they really were during the Medieval times. It was a time that was really by far not what we see in the movies orwere taight i history class. Prearranged marriages between royalties of varying countries began at a really early age. One couple were married--Henry the 78th's brother and Catherine of Arragon were 6 & 4 respectively when they were married. The usual age for a future queen was around 15 and she sure didn't have any idea of what she was in for as an appointed person of a king would show the prospective young queen a portrait of him that usually was one that had some heavy duty im0provements made to the face and body. There was so much inbreeding that mates came with god forsaken gross defornities -- hunch backs or were only maybe 5 feet tall, hideous facial deformities and other deformities on other parts of the body, wre impotence, maybe homosexual, had bad breath, rotten teeth and gums, never or rarely bathed and forced themselves sexually upon these poor too young and too unfortunate married-against-their-will young queens. No wonder why so many of them haad affairs! It does paint a good pictures on just how life was during the Middle Ages, its life experiences. Many of the queens gave bith to 13-18 children, although many were stillborn or only lived a short while. But it paints history in a way that is truthful, revealing, informative while being interesting. This is one that I will keep and reread or loan out but want it back. It is well researched and weritten and gives citations for many useful refernces and other sources of info. If you like history, and you like truth and the low down on how it really was then you will like this book. Oh I almost forgot to tell you ---the author really tears into Princess Diana at the end of the book because it takes you from Middle Ages right up to Princess Diana. The author unleashes verifiable truths of a woman that I had no inkling that Diana had so many bad habits and behaviors and was such a bed hopping yet controlling and needy and attention-starved person. I didn't know Di never graduated from high school and could not pass the exit tests that she failed over and over again. Really sheds light on a lot of things that I had no idea existed-- from way back when to within my life time. Hope you enjoy or at least upon up your mind to the opportunity to learn many new perspectives.Read full review
I really loved this book ! It is very well written and just flows very nicely throughout. There wasnt a moment that I found myself bored while reading it - in fact I couldnt put it down. Its a very accurate depiction of the times. Very entertaining and informative! I laughed, I felt offended (as a woman should be with all the sexism of our history), and I ended the book with complete satisfaction! I have read it 3 times since. I HIGHLY recommend you read this book! I am currently waiting for my local book store to special order SEX WITH THE QUEEN which is Eleanor Hermans next book!!!! ~Michelle Tampa, FLorida
Although the title is tintillating, the book is a good summary of kingly alliances in bed. The author's tone is a bit racy, but the book is entertaining, not vulgar. The reader comes away with a better appreciation for the struggles of women--the wed and the unwed--and for the supremacy of the male throughout history. This does not engage in man bashing, just telling it as it was.
