Michelangelo is one of the best-documented artists of all time. In addition to the famous works in sculpture, painting and architecture, Michelangelo was an accomplished poet, draftsman and correspondent, having written over 300 poems, numerous letters and kept personal and professional records. The life of such a fascinating individual is prey to embellishment. Romantic interpretations of Michelangelo's art and life abound, and he continues to be a figure obscured by myth. Through the inclusion of at least 15 facsimile documents, such as Michelangelo's birth record, his sketches for the Sistine Chapel ceiling and his final letter, The Treasures of Michelangelo offers a vivid portrait of an exceptional yet deeply human individual and the remarkable times in which he lived.
