Twin Peaks was for a brief time "the" thing to watch on tv. It drew you in from the opening shots of the pilot and dared you to discover not only who killed Laura Palmer, but alos discover a myriad patheon of diverse characters and their own back stories as well. It was a hell of a trip that ended too short and too weird for its own good. Sort of an early X-files that burned out too quickly trying to maintian its quirky sense of style. Most of the writers were on drugs at the time and ABC executives did little to really nuture the show; it never really fit in with network standards at the time, but for the two abbreviated years it was on it was certainly a well acted, written and directed series revolving around a very eccentric town called Twin Peaks. We open in a small northwestern town called Twin Peaks where a hideous discovery of the home coming queen's dead boy wrapped in plastic washes ashore. Laura Palmer was the all american girl with some very dark and deadly secrets. Soon an FBI agent arrives as part of a larger investigation of similiar deaths around the state. Special Agent Dale Cooper teams up with the local Sherriff, Harry S Truman and through all manner of investigative techniques attempts to solve this murder. In the course of the show/investigation we meet a large swath of the town and some potential killers among them. Red herring after red herring come and go. We get to solve other crimes and witness situations with the town even as the main story plays out. We get log ladies who hold the key to clues, a talking bird for a murder witness, one eyed patch wearing cheerleaders, dancing dwarfs who talk backwards in black lodges, Giants and more. You'll need more than the Tibetian mind trick to keep it all straight, but its fun trying!!!! Any fan of David Lynch knows to expect the unexpected. I really recommend this show to anyone willing to give it a try. Alot of the cast went on to star in other tv hits such as Kyle Mccaughlin, Ray Wise, David Duchoveny, and Sheryl Lee. Just make some time for a slice of pie and a deep cup of coffee....and find out for yourself who did kill Laura Palmer.Read full review
No stone is left unturned in this exhaustive ten-disc overview of the best show that was ever on television from David Lynch and Mark Frost. The Original Pilot that set off the madness is finally given a proper DVD release with two versions (US and International), as well as all 29 episodes of the show. All picture is remastered with a new 5.1 Audio mix approved by David Lynch. Special features include: deleted scenes, "Scenes From Another Place" feature-length documentary, a look-back at the series with the man himself in "A Slice Of Lynch", fanboy/superfan feature "Return To Twin Peaks", the brilliant Log Lady introductions, priceless SNL footage of Kyle MacLachlan's monologue and spoof sketch, and plenty of other goodies. The box set also comes with a pack of 12 postcards. I cannot recommend this DVD enough. It was a long time coming for this collection, and it is now here. Enjoy!Read full review
This is Twin Peaks on DVD as it should've been done the first time; it includes the Pilot/Northwest Passage and has loads of extras. I recently surfed eBay and built a Season One & Two set - but alas, the Pilot is rare and pricey. The Region 2 DVD Season One set INCLUDES the Pilot (according to items I've read online); but you can get a "Region-Free" DVD player for about what any other one goes for. I bought a Sony on eBay and it plays R2 Farscape perfectly. The region-free player also allows you to snag some deals on other region releases - many of those are unedited and often have features not included in R1 versions. Back to Twin Peaks Definitive Gold Box Edition - YES, yes and... yes. Buy it! DO NOT READ-UP ON TWIN PEAKS TOO MUCH BEFORE VIEWING; YOU WILL RUIN WHAT COULD BE AN AMAZING EXPERIENCE FOR YOU!Read full review
"Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it. Don't wait for it. Just let it happen. It could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot, black coffee." - FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper I've waited many years for this collection to be sold in one package. Finally it's here! This show has it all: Humour, mystery, intrigue, intricate plot twists, beautiful scenery, hauntingly beautiful musical scores, 90's hair, cherry pie, and damn fine cups o' coffee. The definitive collection, quite appropriately titled, of one of the best shows ever to grace television screens. Every single episode in one package, including the elusive pilot episode. In my not-so-humble opinion, the extras alone make this collection worth the low price tag. Here are just a few of my favourite extras: 1. Glossy postcards with Twin Peaks scenes/settings. 2. The hilarious Saturday Night Live skit. 3. Documentaries and interviews. Give yourself a present.Read full review
I had not seen one episode of Twin Peaks for over 12 years, before this purchase. It is digitally enhanced and the DVD menu acts the same way as a newly released movie DVD. They did a great job, every scene is crisp and of great quality, I did not know what to expect. Very happy with this purchase, and for anyone who is on the fence about buying it, do it; worth every penny. They also include under every episode for the Log Lady to give you and intro. I always found her annoying so it gives you the option to turn her off. A few extras on the cd's too. They take you around town with the annual Twin Peaks tour of Washington State. I give this 5 out of 5. It has exceded my expectations, and I do not have any negative remarks about it.
