A disturbing horror film about sex and sickness.
This film is about teenaged boys raping a zombie. If that premise disgusts you, then watching the film isn't going to change your mind. However, if it sounds intriguing, you might want to check this one out.
One of the first new zombie movies I've seen in a while that has an interesting take on the genre, this film has a premise that I find as engaging as I do disturbing. After two hormone-driven teens discover a zombie chained to a bed in an abandoned hospital, one of them decides to keep it as a sex slave, whilst his friend wants to set it free, one way or another. As time goes on, both boys learn that this is a much more dangerous situation than they had realized.
Whilst the concept is pretty sick in a few ways, and I definitely wouldn't promote watching it with family, it explores some ideas regarding toxic masculinity, misogyny and objectification, and I won't spoil, but the ending did surprise me.
Be aware, according to other reviews online, I am in the minority. This film does involve rape and gore, and many people see the plot as anti-feminist and some kind of sick attempt to turn softcore porn into horror, and I don't think that's an uneducated view. Also, if nonconsensual sex, violence against women or bondage is a trigger for you, then this movie probably shouldn't grace your DVD shelf.
But, I enjoyed it for exploring zombies in a way I hadn't seen, with impressive acting, atmosphere and a few scenes that actually disturbed me (a rarity, since I have seen quite a few horror films).
