Sapphire Technology ATI Radeon X1650 256Mb
Trust in ATI quality and features of ATI software. Driver easily found on Sapphire website. Dirt cheap price for favorably reviewed video card.
Didn't work at first because unknown to me, unit required direct connection to power supply. Time spent researching installation online.
Unit runs quite hot even at idle, and even with built-in cooling fan. Had to install additional system fan.
Have not yet pushed maximum potential of video card.

Hitachi Deskstar 80Gb IDE with External Enclosure
Was just looking for a deal on a 80Gb hard drive. External Enclosure was a bonus. Both items work great. A real bargain.
Trust in Hitachi quality. 80Gb minimum size desired for practical computer with modern operating system. Drive passed all diagnostic tests with Western Digital's Life Gaurd program.
Mad Dog External HD Enclosure effortlessly detected and drivers automatically installed under Windows-7 and XP. Came with Windows-98 driver disk which is handy because I have systems running that OS as well.
Very satisfied!

EVGA NVIDIA GeForce FX 5500 (256-A8-N313-AX) DDR SDRAM
I think I recieved a defective video card in this case.
After installing the Nvidia driver and Control Panel software, got an error in Windows XP 32-bit, Device Manager "Device Cannot Start".
I tried driver software furnished by the seller AND downloaded from the Nvidia website, AND installed it in 4 different computers unsuccessfully.
Only one of the test computers got it working by automatically installing an older Nvidia driver version from Microsoft XP generic driver database. But installing the Nvidia Control Panel software disabled the device.
I would NOT try buying the same model again.
Pros:
+ Trust in Nvidia quality.
+ Ease of locating and downloading drivers.
+ VGA, DVI and S-video outputs for Dual Monitors or TV-out.
+ 256Mb Video RAM adequate for light gaming and viewing video media on hi-def monitor.
+ Looks cool.
Cons:
- Poor S-video / TV-out quality (when it works at all).
- Nvidia Control Panel software doesn't allow for tweaking vertical & horizontal image "stretch" as ATI's Catalyst Control Center does.
- I never could get my particular unit to work right.
