Silver Bullion Bars - 1 Oz Precious Metal Content Per Unit

Silver has a long history of being mined as a precious metal, with its use as a currency stretching back 4,000 years. In modern times, silver bullion bars are commonly purchased as an investment, with many putting more faith in actual silver bars than purchasing stocks that can fluctuate wildly in price.

Buying Silver Bullion Bars

Although it may be a strange concept in Australia, with some European countries it is actually possible to go into a bank and purchase silver bullion bars over the counter. The design of a silver bullion bar means that it can be stored easily in a home or office safely, with the most common size for collectors is the 1 oz bar.

Decorative Bars From the 1970's

Silver bullion bars from the 1970's were often intricately stamped to commemorate a specific place or event, popularly relating to life in the Wild West of America. Another common theme of 1970's bullion bars is the inclusion of religious symbols for the celebration of church holidays such as Easter.

Modern Bars

The range of precious metal bullion bars from 2010's and onwards are often less decorative and symbolic than those produced in the 1970's. Whilst some mints will often produce limited edition bars with pictures, you will most likely just see the name and logo of the mint with the weight of the bar stamped on the front. One notable exception is Chinese lunar calendar bars which have become hugely popular and are stamped with the various animals of the Chinese calendar.
