ASUS Intel Core i7 4th Gen Laptops and Notebooks

In today’s fast-paced and digital world, the demand for laptops and notebooks has created hundreds of makes, models and brands, each with their own advantages and disadvantages. Navigating this maze of choices can be overwhelming. The key things to look out for are processor speed, memory storage, RAM and screen size. ASUS laptops and notebooks are known for their good quality with moderate prices.

Laptop and Notebook Processor Speed

The most widely used CPU processors on the market today are the intel CORE series. CPU processors perform the calculations and functions your laptop needs. Processing speed (measured in GHz) is important, as is CPU architecture and number of cores. Intel’s i3,i5,i7 and i9 cores are named for their designed capacity. Low-end computers can use an i3 comfortably, mid-range devices need an i5, high end laptops and notebooks generally use an Intel Core i7, and extreme hobbyists and professionals tend to use the i9. Generation number is also vital to pay attention to. As new technology is developed, Intel releases new lines of cores. The Intel Core i7 4th generation laptops and notebooks were released in 2013, and their chip architecture is a small but definite improvement on previous generations. 4th generation chipsets are stable and reliable, with full modern capability.

Memory for Laptops and Notebooks

Memory refers to two different concepts in computing. Random Access Memory, or RAM, is memory used in active processing. If your device is running a program or app, or performing any sort of calculation, it uses RAM to hold and quickly sort and process information. Higher RAM is always good, but numbers higher than 4GB are only necessary for devices intended for higher use, such as gaming or visual design. Read Only Memory, or ROM, is how your device stores files for long term use. Saved images, videos and documents are stored to your laptop’s hard drive. Modern hard drives are available in both Hard Disk Drives (HDD) and Solid State Drives (SDD). HDDs are a more established technology and have a high capacity, from 512GB to 12TB. SDDs trade capacity for speed and have lightning fast access to stored information, at the cost of reduced capacity. SDDs range from 128GB to 512GB, but allow programs, apps and files to be accessed quicker. High end machines often have both a HDD and a SDD, storing important data and apps on the SDD and larger files on the HDD.

Screen Size for Laptops and Notebooks

Laptops and notebooks can vary greatly with their screen size as some focus on lightness and portability, while others trade increased size for greater capabilities. Small notebooks can easily be 10 inches across their diagonal, whereas large laptops can be 19 inches.
