Balaclava Face Masks, Fishing Hats and Headwear
Winter face shields and balaclavas are great for protecting your face - especially your nose and mouth - from cold and windy winter conditions. In many cases, these garments are made from fleece or other soft, thick material. However, there are also some which protect specifically from sunburn or windburn, or protect from water and chill while fishing. When looking for balaclavas and face masks, its important to consider what task you need them for and what other gear or sporting goods you may wear alongside when making your decision.
What Sort of Balaclava Do I Need?
When trying to determine what sort of Balaclava mask or headwear you need, consider the following:
- Balaclavas cover the head, neck, ears, and mouth. They are most often made with neoprene or fleece, and sit snugly across the chin.
- Face masks are made of neoprene wind and water resistant neoprene, and usually are manufactured with breathing holes. Some have fleece linings, but these do not cover the neck or forehead.
- Neck gaiters are generally made of fleece, and keep heat around your neck and chin.
- Balaclava face mask combinations feature the best of both worlds, with wind-resistant shells over thicker fleece which covers the heat and brow.
