Bottom Freezer Refrigerators

Keeping food cool has become as easy as opening the door and placing the food on the shelf. When it comes to kitchen appliances owning a refrigerator is a must. The key to finding a good fit for your kitchen is to take the measurements and see how much room you have for a new refrigerator. You don’t want to get it home and realise it will not fit into the space designated for the appliance. What’s more, you need to decide on which features are important to your family.

Refrigerator Size

It isn’t just about the height, width and depth of the appliance; it’s the inside capacity that needs to be taken into consideration. Most manufacturers say that 19 to 22 cubic feet is a good size for a family of four. However, if your family buys in bulks or just likes to do one large shopping trip instead of several smaller ones, a 30 to 33 cubic feet refrigerator is a better fit.

Refrigerator Features

As technology changes, so do the features that people are looking for in kitchen appliances. One feature most people look for is the through-the-door ice and water dispenser. Another feature that is quickly becoming the norm is the door-in-door storage access, which lets you take out the items you use the most without having to open the entire door. Additional features include dual evaporators to maintain freshness, temperature controls and drawer and shelf placement.

Benefits of a Bottom Freezer

One of the biggest advantages to having the freezer at the bottom is that the fridge shelves are at eye-level. Since most people use the cooler portion more than the freezer, it's better to have that section easier to reach.

Door Styles

If you love your French door refrigerator and wish you could get one with more cooler space and the freezer at the bottom, then there is an appliance for you. A French door, bottom freezer unit has two narrow doors at the top that open wide to give you more space to put larger items in the fridge. Typically the freezer portion of this type has a pullout drawer on the bottom which gives you access to the frozen food from either side of the compartment.
