Chef Pants

Having the right chef pants is essential as a chef as you spend hours in a hot kitchen preparing delicious meals for customers. Taking the time to do a bit of research on the type of work pants that fit your occupation can go along way in ensuring that you feel comfortable and look great all day long. Instead of taking the old trial and error method, consider the following when choosing chef pants.

Comfortable chef pants are a must, especially for full-time chefs. How the fabric feels on your skin is very crucial. The breathability of the fabric, determines how cool or hot you feel when working in the kitchen. The other thing to consider is how the pants fit. Traditionally, chef pants were designed to be baggy but today this is not the case, you can also opt for a slimmer and sleeker design. Having pants with pockets can be very convenient in case your chef coat does not come with a thermometer pocket.

Your choice of fabric is probably the most important aspect when selecting chef pants. Polyester, cotton and polycotton fabrics are the main options available. If you are on a budget, 100 per cent polyester chef pants are your best option. However, their cheaper cost comes with the sacrifice of comfort. Polyester chef uniforms are ideal for use in kitchens which are not subjected to very high temperatures. 100 per cent cotton chef uniforms are the most comfortable and are ideal for chefs who spend their day in hot kitchens. However, they are the most expensive. Polycotton uniforms are made from a blend of polyester and cotton (normally 65 per cent polyester and 35 per cent cotton). These pants offer a mix of affordability and comfort.

Your want your choice of chef pants to match your chef coat. Chef uniforms come in a variety of button styles with plastic or pearl buttons being the cheapest. Knot buttons and fabric covered buttons can give your uniform an even nicer look. Cuffs, particularly those which feature artistic details such as a line of piping combined with the right choice of chef pants will give your complete chef uniform an even sharper appearance.
