The fourth generation of General Motors' most iconic engine family, the small block LS series, gave us the LS2 - a 6 litre (364CI) V8 engine that appeared in the Chevrolet Corvette and SSR, the Cadillac CTS, and a host of Holden Special Vehicle (HSV) models in Australia, from 2005 to 2008. Featuring an aluminium engine block, cast aluminium heads and higher compression pistons than its LS1 predecessor, the LS2 engine has continued its popularity long after it ceased appearing in manufacturer production vehicles.

Not just another V8

A favourite amongst Chevrolet and Holden fans, the LS2 is a relatively compact engine that, like the LS1, has been shoehorned into almost everything and used as a crate motor for a reliable torque and power increase...and of course that V8 sound! Popular with engine builders, at the drag strip, and in many a car project featuring an engine conversions, the LS2 enjoys a host of aftermarket support in spare parts and modifications, plus backwards compatibility with some other components from the LS engine family.

On eBay you'll find a huge range of second hand, rebuilt and crate LS2 engines for sale from private sellers and wreckers. Whether you're looking for a replacement engine for your Chevrolet/Holden, or to take on the popular engine conversion in another vehicle, you're sure to find the perfect engine on eBay.

Tips for buying

Whilst many second hand engines have been removed from their donor vehicles, making it difficult to test them, some wreckers may offer you a turnkey warranty on the engine for peace of mind. Many engines come with transmissions attached - you may be able to save money here if all you need is the long motor. Try asking the seller if they are willing to separate the transmission and re-list the item for less.

If the LS2 doesn't take your fancy, take a look at eBay's broader range ofcomplete car and truck engines, where you can find replacement engines for most makes and models. If you think two wheels are better than four, you might be more interested in our many listings ofcomplete motorcycle engines, including single, twin, triple, V-twin and four cylinder engine configurations.
