They say “Dress Italian, drive German, drink Russian... and furnish Danish.” Whether you are renovating your entire home or simply want to decorate one room, Scandinavian furniture offers sleek and stylish modern designs that will effortlessly blend into any decor.

From chairs and tables to a chest of drawers, sofas, sideboards and more, Danish furniture is characterised by simplicity and minimalism. Danish designers such as Borge Morgensen, Arne Jacobsen, Finn Juhl and Hans Wegner have all been heavily influenced by the father of Danish modern, Kaare Klint, who incorporated leather and metal into his furniture and homewares.

Types of Danish design furniture

A product of the 1950s, Danish furniture is functional, edgy, timeless, and minimalistic. If you are looking for unusual yet comfortable pieces, you can’t go past Danish design furniture. One of the movement’s Greats, Finn Juhl, created an edgy seat and backrest design that were not part of the frame. Arne Jacobsen was also famous for his skills, which included a series of popular chairs known as the Egg and the Swan. Borge Mogensen experimented with exposed wooden framing and saddle leather to create the classic Hunting Chair. Another innovator, Hans Wegner produced well over 500 different designs that are still found in production today.

What makes Danish furniture so unique?

Form over function is what has kept the Danish furniture movement going strong well into the 21st century. The incorporation of plywood into many of the designs, the relatively low cost of the materials and the simple, elegant designs have continued to make Danish furniture a popular choice even still to this day.

If you would like to feature a Great Dane in your dining room or living space, look no further than online on eBay. Whether you’re looking for Danish antique furniture , you can find it all in the one place at great prices. Incorporate German or Italian antique furniture in your living area to really impress your guests when you next host a function.
