Electric Fence Posts Fence Posts

An electric fence contain some type of animal within a certain boundary. Electric fences that are big enough to utilize posts most often are containing larger animals such as livestock or horses instead of dogs. It is important to use posts at the end and corners of a fence as that is where the most tension occurs and needs reinforcing. Corner posts take the most load, and are key to a solid fence construction. Posts should be in the ground at least three to four feet. There are also brace posts that you place throughout a fence where there are long lines of wire in between. Additionally, when installing your fence, posts on hillsides should be perpendicular to the slope. If this does not occur, the wire may not be at the proper height or binding could occur in the insulators or clips.

Electric Fence Insulators

Electric fence insulators are key for anyone who is building a new fence. Insulators protect the fence from high voltage as well as keeping it intact. Additionally, the sun’s UV rays can damage the electric fence over time and with insulators, you can further protect your fence, ensuring it will last for several years. These insulators help secure the wire to posts and also make sure that the electrical current isn’t giving a path to the ground through the posts. Electric fence insulators come in different sizes and materials all of which determine their type of application. Most insulators are white ceramic with screws at opposite ends of the insulator. The most common type of insulator looks like two mushrooms stacking on top of each other.

Electric Horse Fence Posts

For larger animals such as horses, they require larger and higher fencing and posts, as they are bigger animals that can provide a heavier load on the posts. Electric horse fence posts should space no further than 4 to 5 metres apart, and you should also brace and secure them with concrete. These posts are available in a variety of materials, such as wood, plastic and fibreglass, and average between five to six feet tall.
