Become the King of Rock n Roll, Elvis Presley
If you’re looking for great men’s costumes, you’ve come to the right place. One of history’s most recognisable figures is the King of Rock n Roll himself, Mr Elvis Presley. Known for massive hits such as Blue Suede Shoes, Jailhouse Rock, Love Me Tender. The King had a unique look that got even more extravagant as his career went on. Now is your chance to own an Elvis Presley costume that everybody will recognise.
Who was Elvis Presley?
For those who don’t know, Elvis Presley was a hugely successful musical artist who hit the peak of his career during the late 1950s and the 1960s. He was born in Louisiana, USA but found fame in Tennessee where he recorded his first songs. He burst onto the music scene in 1956, quickly becoming one of the most talked-about figures in rock n roll.
Despite being well-known as a musician, he spent much of the 1960s starring in movies, however most people consider this to be the least successful of his pursuits. Still, he returned to music and was more successful than ever, becoming the highest-selling solo artist of all time. Presley was characterised by his sequined jumpsuits, provocative dancing style and his iconic black hair.
Several Elvis costumes styles available
The King was known for his outlandish stage costumes, and these are the images that have become immortalised in costume form in the decades since his death in 1977. One of the most iconic jumpsuits you can find is mostly white with a sequined American Eagle on the cape, flared legs and a red lapel, often worn open to the waist.
There are several others of course, including:
- Black and gold
- Gold satin
- White and red
You can even find more casual Presley costumes from his younger years, such as his trademark light blue pin-stripe suit. Choose whichever Elvis you think looks best, and getting dressed up today!
Key components of an Elvis Presley costume
So, what makes an Elvis costume really look great. For most people, there are 3 main components of every Elvis costume:
- Sequined jumpsuit: The jumpsuit is an iconic look that would later be favoured by glam rock bands in the 70s and 80s, but they were all borrowing from The King. Elvis’ jumpsuits were known to have flared arms and legs, usually an upright, extravagant collar, and of course sequins on the front and back. Many came with a cape, which was also covered in sequins.
- The hair: No Elvis costume is complete without a thick mane of black hair. Depending on which Elvis era you’re looking at, you could have a slicked-back, neater look, or from his later years, hair that was a bit longer, but still held up to look slick and big. A curl at the front gives you the perfect Presley look.
- The glasses: Presley didn’t always perform in sunglasses, but many of the iconic images of the great man include some pretty zany shades. We’re not quite talking Elton John zany, but to pull off the Presley look you’ll want some bold glasses, preferably with coloured lenses or a gold trim around the side.
