Who was Elvis Presley?

Key components of an Elvis Presley costume

So, what makes an Elvis costume really look great. For most people, there are 3 main components of every Elvis costume:

• Sequined jumpsuit: The jumpsuit is an iconic look that would later be favoured by glam rock bands in the 70s and 80s, but they were all borrowing from The King. Elvis’ jumpsuits were known to have flared arms and legs, usually an upright, extravagant collar, and of course sequins on the front and back. Many came with a cape, which was also covered in sequins.

• The hair: No Elvis costume is complete without a thick mane of black hair. Depending on which Elvis era you’re looking at, you could have a slicked-back, neater look, or from his later years, hair that was a bit longer, but still held up to look slick and big. A curl at the front gives you the perfect Presley look.

• The glasses: Presley didn’t always perform in sunglasses, but many of the iconic images of the great man include some pretty zany shades.
