Firm Mattresses

Firm mattresses are differentiated from medium comfort level mattresses and the softest mattresses by denser cushioning material and more significant support, which makes the mattress feel firmer when lying upon it. Many individuals prefer firm mattresses because they offer support to the back, shoulders and hips, helping keep the major joints and bone structures in alignment and reducing pressure to joints.

Firm Mattress Material Type

Mattresses, including firm mattresses, are manufactured in a wide variety of materials. Innerspring mattresses, for example, use deep layers of padding over spring frames. Memory foam mattresses utilise a proprietary synthetic foam that provides the right balance of support and compression to support a body in all the places it requires support. Memory foam mattresses famously bounce right back to their original orientation even after long compression, remembering its original shape, unlike traditional comfort foams that become compressed over time and do not return to their original shape. Comfort foam is a latex-based foam that offers wide compression, rather than the targeted compression of memory foam.

Firm Mattress Sizes

Firm mattresses, like soft mattresses, come in a wide variety of standardised sizes. These include the cot or cotbed size, the single, the single extra-long, the double, the queen, the king and the king single sizes. In homes, one is most likely to use a single extra-long mattress (measuring 92 by 203 cm), double-sized mattress (measuring 137 by 187 cm), queen-sized mattress (measuring 153 by 203 cm) or king-sized mattress (measuring 183 by 203 cm).

Firm Mattress Brands

Many well-known home goods and mattress brands manufacture firm beds, including Sealy and IKEA. Other brands include Bestway, Sleepeezee, SleepMaker, ORTHO, King Koil and Dreams.

Firm Mattress Options

Firm mattresses come with a variety of other options to consider as well. For example, some are available in colour options, such as black, blue, grey or white. Others may be hypoallergenic or easily roll up for convenient transportation. Some may come with comfortable mattress toppers to add an optional layer of softness atop the mattress.
