Gas Analysers & Combustion Analysers

Gas Analysers and Combustion Analysers

Gas and combustion analysers come in many forms, but they all perform a similar function, namely testing the quality and content of a gas. Used together with gas detectors, they can help improve safety conditions. Gas analysers help test the quality of a gas, for example, in a room, and are not necessarily connected to the combustion of a fuel. Combustion analysers and flue gas analysers on the other hand, are designed to specifically test combustion gases.

Uses of Gas Analysers

Gas analysers can test a sample of gas to check its quality. They are used to check the quality of air and the quality of gases used in different industrial applications, such as manufacturing. They may be larger lab units or smaller portable ones. Simpler models can detect the quantity of one or two components in a gas, while more complex units can detect much more. Lastly, continuous gas analysers are types permanently mounted at a location where a gas needs to be monitored non-stop, such as in a manufacturing situation where the gas in a room must contain certain proportions of components.

Exhaust Gas Analysers for Vehicles

Exhaust analysers mostly measure the quantity of carbon monoxide and oxygen in a vehicle's exhaust fumes. If the engine receives a lean mixture, the exhaust fumes will contain an excess of oxygen. On the other hand, a rich mixture results in more carbon monoxide. In fact, most modern vehicles are equipped with built-in emissions analysers, and they use this data to improve the engine's combustion properties, resulting in more efficient use of fuel and lower emissions.

Combustion Analysers for Homes and Industries

Combustion analysers, such as flue gas analysers, can test appliances and monitor ambient air conditions. They do this by measuring flue gases at chimneys or appliance exhaust units for levels of oxygen, carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide. In addition, these analysers also measure flue-gas temperature. This information can be used to improve boiler efficiency, improve air quality and save energy.
