HSP LiPo Hobby RC Batteries

HSP Racing, with its line of nitro and electric powered cars, trucks, buggies and ATVs, sells its products in more than 30 countries. If you own an electric powered HSP vehicle, it’s only a matter of time before its battery needs replacement. You’ll find different options from which to choose, so knowing just the kind of HSP hobby RC battery you need is crucial.

LiPo, NiMH, or NiCad?
You’ll get three basic battery types to chose from – lithium polymer (LiPo), nickel–metal hydride (NiMH) and nickel–cadmium (NiCad). LiPo batteries come with no memory effect. These batteries are easy on the pocket, powerful, typically lightweight and you may recharge them multiple times in a day. They’re not the best bet for beginners given that may burst into flames if punctured or overcharged. NiMH batteries are powerful and you may recharge them twice a day. This kind of battery is typically heavy, it comes with a memory effect and it takes longer to charge than a LiPo battery. Previously common NiCad batteries are on their way out. These batteries are not expensive, but they come with memory effect, they’re typically heavy and they tend to lack capacity and power.

Power and Capacity
HSP LiPo hobby RC batteries come with different power and capacity ratings. The power of a replacement battery should be the same as the one your HSP vehicle currently uses. For example, if you have an HSP buggy with an 11.1-volt battery, getting a 7.1-volt replacement will not serve the purpose. You may get a battery with a different capacity, as this primarily determines how long the battery will last before requiring a recharge.

The scale of your HSP vehicle determines the size of battery you should purchase because you cannot use them interchangeably. The most commonly available batteries are for 1:8 and 1:10 scale models. Your other scale options include 1:14, 1:16, 1:24 and 1:100.

Do You Need a Battery Tester?
An HSP hobby RC battery tester/capacity checker gives you easy means to find out how much juice is remaining in your battery. While you may use a typical capacity checker as a handheld device, some are small enough to become part your RC vehicles. All you need is some double-sided tape.
