Dare to bare in a Mankini

Go daring on the beach with a mankini, perfect for showing off your fun and confident side, or as a hilarious outfit for a fancy dress party.

Made famous by Sacha Baron Cohen's "Borat", the mankini is a novelty swimsuit which covers the nether regions and has straps that go up over the shoulders, making a V-shape across your body. The word 'mankini' is an amalgamation of the words 'man' and 'bikini', the idea being that it is a bikini for men to wear.

In the film, Borat's mankini was bright green, so if you're looking to go for the original look, pick the perfect green one for you.

The right Mankini for you

Since the film's release in 2006, the mankini has become a regular novelty favourite, so aside from the classic bright green mankini, you'll also find costumes for men in a range of colours and styles. Choose your favourite colour, a wacky print, or a "Borat" themed costume.

You'll find character designs and even festive themes such as Santa, Rudolph, and snowmen.

Where to wear

Borat wore his mankini on the beach but although they're made from the same material as swimsuits, this isn't your average swimwear and may leave some less than desirable tan lines. If you do decide to brave it on the beach, you'll want to team up with one of your mates and wear matching mankinis.

The best time to wear a mankini is when you want to show off your funny side. Wear yours to a cosplay or costume party for a funny outfit. You might want to reserve it for warmer nights though, or you'll be chilly all evening.

It is becoming more and more popular to wear mankinis for a bucks party. Get the whole team to dress up in matching costumes, use it as a forfeit for losing a party game, or gang up against the groom and make him wear one alone all night for maximum embarrassment.
