Console Tables

Complement your home

Add a touch of traditional style to your living space with a console table

Console tables are one of the most popular pieces of modern furniture around, commonly found in living rooms, dining rooms, hallways or foyers. In commercial places, console tables are typically located in lobbies and are often called side tables, storage desks, sofa tables, telephone desks or console units with drawers.

Console tables are characteristically long with a narrow depth, many of which feature drawers. Many moons ago, console tables featured only two front legs which were placed against a wall on which the back was connected. The front and sides of the furniture were often elaborately embellished or carved, the tops usually crafted from marble meaning they were relatively weighty.

Nowadays, console tables tend to be made out of timber, composite materials, metals, glass or synthetic materials, with many being freestanding. You'll find most console tables are rectangular in shape, frequently featuring drawers whilst others are an elongated half circle or oval shape, the latter of which creates a truly romantic look.

You'll discover these tables everywhere in homes nowadays, although one of the most popular places you'll find the furniture is nearby the front door. Side table consoles, as they're often called, generally sport a couple of small drawers whilst others offer additional storage space underneath.

A console unit's main use is as a stylish cabinet for displaying treasured items such as photographs, lamps, flowers, ornaments, and showpieces, not to mention family heirlooms. That said, they can also be used in dining rooms to serve buffets.

Perfect as a hall table, in the living room, dining room, or equally as good placed close to the front door, console furniture provides the perfect flat surface for flaunting precious possessions that make your home stand out.

Even better, console tables are a brilliant storage option, slot keys, passports, and money into the drawers. In the lounge or hallway, the console units are a great platform for a small, flat screen whilst the drawers can be used to keep remote controls and other electronic knick-knacks.
