NBA legend Kobe Bryant had a long-standing association with Nike, and his 4th range of signature shoes was a true game-changer. Prior to the release of the Kobe 4, basketballers had a long-held belief that high-top boots were better for ankle support. Inspired by soccer and other sport that put pressure on a player’s ankles, Kobe challenged this idea. He believed that a lighter shoe would allow more natural movement, and therefore less stress on the ankle. As such, the Kobe 4 was born, being Nike’s lowest-profile basketball shoes at the time.
