Olympus Tough Digital Camera
Olympus’ Tough compact digital cameras are built to survive environments that would destroy most cameras. Their combination of durability and image quality makes them a natural choice for extreme conditions.Olympus Tough
The Olympus Tough line is a family of rugged compact cameras designed for sports, outdoor and underwater photography. The first model released was the TG-1, announced in 2012. In 2017, Olympus launched the fifth generation of Olympus Tough waterproof digital cameras, the TG-5. The Tough cameras are designed to resist a variety of hazards. The TG-5 features a hermetically sealed body with double-locking covers. It is waterproof to a depth of 15 metres, IPX6 dustproof, freeze-proof down to -10 degrees Celsius and features a fog-resistant, dual-layer lens. It can also withstand a fall of up to 2.1 metres and crushing forces up to 100 kgf. Even the original TG-1 was waterproof to 12 metres and shock-proof to 2 metres, making it an extremely capable camera for harsh conditions.Imaging
Olympus Tough cameras have brains as well as brawn. Models from the TG-1 to the TG-5 have been built around a 1/2.3-inch sensor rated at 12 megapixels. The modern TG-5 comes with a 4.5-18mm focal length zoom lens, equivalent to 25-100mm on full-frame. At the low end the aperture can open to f/2, allowing you to use fast shutter speeds to freeze the action and capture clear low-light images. It is also capable of shooting 4K video, or recording 120 frames per second in full HD.Accessories
One of the design priorities for Olympus when designing the TG cameras was system expandability. The company makes a range of accessories for its Tough cameras, including standard cases and straps as well as optical accessories like the waterproof 1.7x TCON-T01 Tele Converter and FCON-T01 Fisheye Adapter. Olympus also produces a waterproof casing and underwater flash specifically for use with the Tough cameras.Models
The TG models are not the only Olympus digital cameras in their Tough family. The Tough range also includes the Stylus TG-Tracker, an action camera with a built-in field sensor system that tracks GPS location, direction, acceleration, local temperature and pressure. Olympus also produced other rugged compact cameras before the current Tough range first came to market, such as the now-discontinued Olympus Stylus Tough-6000.
