Omron Safety Relays

Omron is a Japanese electronics company whose primary business is the manufacture of automation components such as relays. Safety relays are electrically operated switches that enforce safety functions in the event of a hazard. Most safety relays employ an electromagnetic mechanism to operate a switch, but relays that operate differently such as solid-state relays and reed relays are also available. The company understands the importance of risk reduction in any business and manufactures relays that comply with safety standards.

General Purpose Relays

General purpose relays (also known as auxiliary relays) are built for sequence control to direct load switching and are used in different applications depending on the preferred method of control or panel control environment. Omron general purpose relays engineered for built-in applications and are used selectively depending on the heater, motor or compressor characteristics.

Safety Relays

Omron safety relays operate on the same principle as general purpose relays with the only difference being they have a forced guided contact that ensures contacts do not remain welded. This feature makes them more reliable than general purpose relays. In addition, they are able to detect opposite contact. They are used where failure to break contact could result in major damage to the machine or device.

Time Delay Relays

In automated systems where electronic switching on and off is dependent on time, time delay relays are the best option. Omron time delay relays are control relays that have a built-in time delay mechanism. They enforce electronic on and off switching based on time settings. Time delay relays are triggered by either the application of an input voltage or the opening and closing of a trigger signal. Signal triggering can be accomplished through dry contact or power triggering. Omron offers both digital and analog time delay relays. Digital relays allow high-precision timing and easy preset time settings.


Generally, Omron relays are used to stop movement in a controlled manner, monitor movable guards in automated systems, interrupt closing movements during access and emergency on/off operations. Common control devices that employ relays include safety mats, light curtains, three-position devices, interlock safety switches, non-contact safety sensors, two-hand control devices, magnetic switches and emergency stop buttons.
