Quay Australia aims to provide eye protection from the sun to generations of Australians who love the outdoors and love even more to express their personalities through fashion.

Quay Plastic Women's Sunglasses

Plastic frames are in right now, and there are a lot of good reasons to look for sunglasses with plastic frames for your next eyewear purchase. To start with, you can do a lot more with plastic, so the range of styles will be a lot wider. And picking plastic opens a heap of colour options, too. While metal frames tend to restrict you to a few basic metallic shades, plastic frames come in a huge variety of colours – and prints!

Quay Women's Cat Eye Sunglasses

Cat eye sunglasses are a perennial favourite, and for good reason. This popular frame shape gained followers in the 1960s and 1970s, after actresses like Audrey Hepburn and Elizabeth Taylor wore them in movies, just dripping with style and glamour. The shape of the frames remains popular because it’s complimentary on so many faces, giving an instant lift with the upswept sides.

Quay Round Women's Sunglasses

Popularised by John Lennon, round sunglasses still evoke that peace loving, hippie style. They tend to look fantastic in soft, pastel lens shades (want to look at the world through rose coloured glasses?) and metal frames. However, you’ll also find some amazing plastic frames – often quite a bit larger and tending to evoke more of a 1950s feel. This shape also works well with oversized sunglasses, with a range of bold and bright designs that stand out – and do a great job of protecting your eyes from the sun’s glare.

Quay Square Women's Sunglasses

We’re often wary of square sunglasses, because they can look so severe. But don’t be afraid to add some right angles to your day out. Thin metal frames and graduated lenses soften down square sunglasses a lot. Or, you can go all out and get a pair of wide plastic framed sunnies in a bright colour. Go oversize for a big, intense look.

Quay Mirrored Women's Sunglasses

Need a bit more privacy when out in public? Prefer to emanate an air of mystery? Then mirrored sunglasses might just be for you. The lenses hide your eyes from the people around you, but they also tend to be darker – a boon for people who are light sensitive. Mirrored lenses tend to work very well in medium and oversized sunglasses.

Types of Frames:

Metal

As a rule of thumb, metal sunglasses frames tend to be a bit tougher than plastic, and more likely to bend rather than snap if put under a lot of pressure. While this isn’t a huge deal for most people, it can be a handy feature for those who are a bit absent minded or who tend to be very active. Or, for that matter, have children or pets who might accidentally mistreat a pair of sunglasses. You’ll generally find that sunglasses with metal frames tend to be more slimline than those with plastic frames.

Plastic

Plastic has a lot of great qualities, including its capacity to be moulded into practically any shape required. Modern plastics have a lot to offer, with a lot of different special effects like glow in the dark and glitter frames. Not that you’re likely to need glow in the dark sunglass frames too often… but hey, why let that stop you?

Metal & Plastic

A lot of frames these days are hybrid metal and plastic, combining all the best features of both. These can add some amazing contrast effects to your sunglasses, especially where metal lens frames are combined with plastic arms, or vice versa.

Cat Eye

Cat eye sunglasses tend to look great on almost anyone, but they’re particularly suited to people with wide or round faces, because they provide an elongated look to the face. The upswept outer edge enhances cheekbones and lifts the face, giving extra contouring and life to your face even when you’re tired or downcast.

Designer

Quay Australia has collaborated with several designers, over the years, to bring their distinctive styles into its sunglasses range. Most noticeable recently have been the Jennifer Lopez and Chrissy Teigen collections, although if you have a quick look through the designer section, you’re bound to find a number of collabs both present and past.

Round

Round sunglasses – from small metal frames like John Lennon to big oversized frames – tend to work well with contrasting face shapes. So, while round faces tend to look extra round in these, oblong and heart shaped faces tend to shine. Although oblong faces and small round frames can be dicey; round frames will tend to emphasise a strong jawline. Great if you want that, but a problem if you don’t. People with oval shaped faces: the world is your oyster as far as sunglass shapes go. You can wear round sunglasses too – especially if you have a jawline you’d like to highlight.

Oversized

Oversized sunglasses are awesome things. They’re big and beautiful, and they’re one of those timeless classics that look great on anyone. Plus, they do a great job of protecting your eyes. Quay Australia make a wide selection of every season, in several shapes and styles. Pick your shape with care, as this can make or break your look. For inspiration, look to Audrey Hepburn movies. To soften the look of oversized sunglasses, pick metal frames and graduated lenses.

Square

While square sunglasses can easily look severe, that doesn’t mean you should toss out the whole idea. Quay Australia produce quite a few square framed sunglasses, and in the right colours and materials, they can bring drama and contrast to a lot of faces. For intensity, pick black, sharply angled frames. For a softer look, pick lighter coloured frames with a slight cat’s eye upturn at the side.
