TIPS FOR WASHING FLEECE
Fleece jackets or hoodies are a great investment because they keep you warm and they are comfortable to wear. It’s popular among hikers or backpackers who are often exposed to chilly weather outdoors, but it can also be used for streetwear pieces.
To make the most of your fleece jacket, hoodie or even shorts, here are some laundry and fabric care tips to remember.
Because it is made from synthetic fibres, fleece can be sensitive to heat so keep it away from open flame and be careful around flying sparks if you’re wearing it.
Always read the care instructions on the label. But as a general rule, before loading into the washing machine, zip up your jacket (or hoodie) and turn it inside out. Use cold water and mild detergent and if possible, set it on a gentle cycle and reduce spin speed. Do not use bleach or fabric conditioner because it can damage the fabric. When choosing a detergent, opt for powder instead of liquid because the latter can affect your fleece jacket or hoodie’s durability. Line dry the garment while still damp. You can also choose to hand wash. Just make sure to brush gently (if you must) and avoid wringing.
If you notice piling on your fleece garment, use a fabric shaver to remove lint. Make sure to do this while it is dry.
Store your fleece garments in a drawer instead of just letting them hang in an open space (like an exposed jacket rack). Fleece tends to accumulate dust and lint, so it is recommended to store it in a closed space.
