Safety 1st Convertible Baby Car Seats

Children are precious cargo, so of course you would want to protect them with the best possible choices. Convertible car seats are the next step once your baby is past the infant car seat stage. Convertible means the seat can be installed as rear-facing and moved to forward-facing when the child is old enough. Safety 1st convertible car seats ensure your child is secure in the car from babyhood all the way up to 29 kg and beyond.

ISOFIX

As with any car seat, proper installation is important. You can either use the car's seatbelt and top tether to secure it, or you can use the ISOFIX connectors. ISOFIX is just as secure as the seatbelt and top tether option. It utilises anchors in the rear seats of a vehicle to connect the car seat. These ISOFIX connectors are meant to make installation simpler for parents. Not all cars have ISOFIX anchors; you need to check your owner's manual if you are unsure. Safety 1st has some convertible seat models with ISOFIX.

Other Convertible Baby Car Seats

It is possible to find unbranded convertible baby car seats. These are less expensive than Safety 1st or any other branded car seats. When looking at any type of seat, make sure it is marked as AS/NZS 1754 standard. This is the 5-tick standard and the only one approved for sale and use in Australia.

Baby Car Seat Accessories

While you are looking for convertible car seats, consider baby car seat accessories to go with it. Some car seat accessories include pockets or other organisers to keep your baby supplies in one place. If your baby is very young, you may want head support padding. Any child will benefit from a sun shade for the window. Of course, your car will benefit from a car seat cover to protect it from all the dropped crumbs and other bits from the kids.

Booster Seats

When your little one outgrows her convertible car seat, but is too small to wear a regular seatbelt, there is a range of booster seats available. Look for booster seats that have rigid backs and side protection. You can even find convertible car seats that convert to boosters. These utilise the car's safety belt once the child is big enough.
